The following information applies to you once you become a customer who has a gift card issued by MECU of Baltimore, Inc.

Terms and Conditions – MECU of Baltimore, Inc. Personalized Gift Card Program

The following are your MECU Visa Gift Card Terms and Conditions. In these Terms and Conditions "you" or "your" means the person who has received the MECU Visa Gift Card; "we", "us" or "our" means MECU Credit Union; "Card" means the MECU Visa Gift Card. Please read the following carefully and keep them for your records. By accepting and using your Card, you are agreeing to these Terms and Conditions.

Gift Card Usage

Your MECU Visa Gift Card is issued by MECU of Baltimore, Inc. and may be used for purchases at most merchants where Visa Debit is accepted. The card may not be used at some merchants including airlines, recurring payments, and non-financial money exchange establishments, hotels, gambling establishments, rental car agencies or "pay at the pump" gasoline. (You may purchase gas by presenting the card to the attendant). Some merchants, like restaurants, may attempt to submit authorizations against the card for an amount greater than the actual purchase amount. If a merchant attempts an authorization greater than the balance remaining on your gift card, it will be declined.

Before using your MECU Visa Gift Card, you must activate it by visiting www.mecu.com or by calling the number on the sticker on your card from your home phone number. You must sign the back before you can use the Card.

For security reasons, we may limit the amount or number of transactions you can make on your card. You may not use your card for any illegal transactions.

Each time you use your Card, you authorize us to deduct the amount of the transaction from the balance of the funds associated with the Card. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO EXCEED THE BALANCE OF THE FUNDS AVAILABLE ON YOUR CARD. If you attempt to use the Card when there are insufficient funds associated with it, the transaction will generally be declined. Nevertheless, if a transaction that exceeds the balance of the funds available on your Card occurs due to a systems malfunction or otherwise, you shall remain fully liable to us for the amount of the transaction and any applicable fees or charges.

If you wish to use your Card for a purchase, which is greater than the balance of the funds available on your Card, you must tell the merchant to charge only the exact amount of funds available on the Card to the Card, and then you must arrange to pay the difference using another payment method. The merchant may require payment for the difference in cash rather than accepting another card, such as a credit or debit card. Some merchants may not accept these "split transactions". If you fail to inform the merchant prior to completing the transaction, your Card is likely to be declined.

If you commence a purchase and then change your mind and fail to make the purchase after the merchant has already obtained an "authorization" for the transaction, the "authorization" may result in a temporary hold for that amount of funds for up to ten (10) days. Car and hotel authorizations may result in a temporary hold on funds for a longer period of time.

This Gift Card is not a credit card. The MECU Gift Card is non-reloadable and cannot be reused.

There is a $5.00 replacement card fee if the gift card is lost or stolen. An additional fee of $21.95 will be assessed for rush deliveries. The gift card will expire 1 year (12 months) after the date of purchase.

If you use your gift card for a transaction in a foreign currency the transaction will be converted to U.S. dollars in accordance with applicable Visa operating regulations for international transactions. The conversion rate in dollars will be a rate selected by Visa from a range of rates available in wholesale currency markets for the applicable Central Processing Date, which rate may vary from the rate Visa itself receives, or the government mandated rate in effect for the applicable Central Processing Date in each instance, plus or minus any adjustment determined by the issuer.
