January 12, 2012MECU of Baltimore Pays Members over $4 Million in 2011
MECU of Baltimore paid members an extraordinary dividend of over $1 million.

January, 2012, Baltimore, MD --- On December 31, 2011, MECU of Baltimore paid its members an extraordinary dividend of over $1 million. This was in addition to a loan interest rebate of $1.1 million paid the end of November and the over $2 million cash bonus paid members in June. During 2011, MECU paid its members over $4 million in cash bonuses.

MECU has paid its members a cash bonus yearly since 1981. In 2008, the MECU Board of Directors decided to pay half the cash bonus at the end of June and the remainder at the end of December in order to help members dealing with financial issues of the recession. MECU paid the winter loan interest rebate in November to provide members with some extra cash before the holidays.

January 9, 2012Possible Changes to Your Visa® Debit and Credit Cards
Shorter Names on Cards.

Beginning January 2012, there may be a change in how your name or business name appears on your MECU Visa Credit or Debit card.

Visa regulation requires that there be clear space around the Visa brand mark and the card’s functional and security features. This industry-wise change will now limit the number of characters that may be embossed on Visa cards. With this change, your name may be shortened to an initial or abbreviation.

You will only see a change if your name or business name exceeds 21 characters which includes spaces. This change will NOT affect the use of your current MECU Visa Debit or Credit cards. New cards reflecting this change will be issued approximately 30 days prior to a card’s expiration date.

Please note that you will only receive a new card if your existing card is expiring. Please activate your card as you would normally.
