Q: How does the gift card work?
A: The gift card is a prepaid card that can be used most everywhere Visa Debit Cards are accepted. Because it's a prepaid card, spending is limited to the amount of money on the card. When the recipient makes a purchase with the gift card, the purchase amount is deducted from the card balance.
Q: Is the gift card a credit card?
A: No. The gift card is a prepaid card. While a prepaid card looks similar to a credit card, gift card recipients do not have a line of credit. They can only spend up to the balance on the card.
Q: Who do I contact if my gift card order has not been received?
A: If the gift card has not arrived within 5-7 business days, please call us at 800-847-3473. Have your confirmation ready; you will need it for reference.
Purchasing a Gift Card
Q: How do I pay for the gift card(s) I’ve ordered?
A: At the end of your gift card order, you will see a payment screen. Using your MECU Debit card or a MECU Credit card are the only accepted methods of payment. You will be required to enter the name as it appears on the card, billing address, card account number, expiration date and security code on the reverse side of the card.
Q: How will I know my gift card purchase was successful?
A: You will receive an online receipt once you have successfully purchased a gift card. In addition, you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your order at the e-mail address you provide during the purchase process.
Q: Are there fees associated with this card?
A: There is a modest fee to purchase this card. A complete list of any fees associated with the gift card can be found in the Terms and Conditions and/or on this website.
Q: Is there a fee to use the card?
A: No, merchants will never charge the recipient a fee for using the gift card.
Q: When will the gift card be received?
A: Once you have completed your purchase, the processing of your gift card order begins immediately. Depending on the shipping method you select, the recipient could receive the card in a few days!
Q: Can I rush my gift card order?
A: Yes, you will be provided delivery options during your purchase but there may be an additional fee for rush delivery. Remember, you can also enter the optional recipient e-mail address with a special message to let them know their gift card is on its way.
Q: Can I have the gift card sent to me?
A: Yes, you can select to have the gift card sent to you or to the gift recipient. For security purposes, a gift card ordered for more than $200 will be shipped to the purchaser’s billing address.
Q: Can I send a gift card anywhere?
A: Gift cards may be shipped anywhere in the United States (including U.S. territories). Cards will not be shipped to international, P.O. Box or APO addresses.
Q: Can I purchase a gift card at any MECU branch location?
A: Unfortunately, these prepaid cards are only available to purchase online.
Q: How can I cancel my order?
A: You cannot cancel your order after the purchase is completed.
Using my Gift Card
Q: Can I start using my gift card as soon as I receive it?
A: No. Before using your MECU gift card, you must activate the card.
Q: How do I activate my gift card?
A: You may activate your card right here on the MECU website or by calling the number on the sticker on your card from your primary phone.
Q: Who can use the card?
A: Only the recipient whose name appears on the card may use it. You must sign the back before you can use the Card.
Q: What if the item I want to purchase costs more than the value on my gift card?
A: When you present your gift card as payment, simply inform the cashier of the value of your card. You can use the card up to the available balance. You must then choose another form of payment for the remaining portion of your purchase.
Q: How do I find out the amount left on my card?
A: Register your gift card through the MECU Gift Card web site. Once your card is registered, you may return at any time to view the dollar amount left on your card or past transactions.
Q: Will my gift card expire?
A: Yes, the gift card is valid for 1 year (12 months) after the date of purchase.
Q: Can I add additional value to the gift card?
A: No, this card is not reloadable meaning once the balance is spent, the card should be cut up and thrown away.
Q: What should I do when the merchant's sales terminal asks me to press 'Debit' or 'Credit'?
A: You should always press the 'Credit' button. Although the gift card is not a credit card, the transaction is processed like one. You should always sign a sales receipt.
Q: Does my gift card work at Gas Stations?
A: Yes, simply present your gift card to the attendant for payment. Your gift card cannot be authorized from a "pay at the pump" device. Take it in to the cashier and let them know how much gas you want to purchase.
Q: Whom do I call if I think there has been a transaction error on my gift card?
A: If you believe there is an error, such as a purchase that you do not recognize, simply call us at 800-847-3473.
Q: Can I use my card for recurring transactions?
A: No, the gift card may not be used for automatic recurring transactions such as internet service providers or health club fees. The card may not be used for internet gambling or any illegal activity.
Q: Can I stop payment on a purchase I made with the card?
A: No, it is not possible to stop payment on a purchase that is made after the card has been presented for payment.
