Protecting Your Identity
Protecting your identity, managing risk and fraud is vitally
important to MECU. New forms of fraud are rampant. To address these concerns, MECU as well as other businesses and the
government, seek to develop procedures, service enhancements, and regulatory policies to safeguard individuals and businesses
from these threats.
You can be part of the fight against fraud and identity theft by securing your Personal Identification Number (PIN) and any other identification that you use at ATMs or online. Your PIN is confidential and should not be shared with anyone. Please understand that if you reveal your PIN to anyone or request that the credit union issue a PIN to anyone else, you have authorized that individual to transfer and withdraw funds from any of your accounts which may be accessed via the PIN.
MECU wants to help you protect yourself. A good place to start is the MECU website – www.mecu.com. Under the “News”
section is a “Security Alert” tab. There is a section on Identity Theft and how you can help prevent it, with tips such as -- Never give out your PIN number and account number to anyone who contacts you via phone or email.
Other ways MECU protects you:
The FALCON system monitors for credit card fraud.
Under online banking you can set up your own “preferences”
and receive notification of changes in your accounts.
You can sign up to receive an eStatement to help prevent your
statement from being stolen from the mail.
You can have payments such as Social Security or retirement
checks sent directly to your account to help prevent lost or
stolen checks.
To help reduce the impact of fraud and identity theft, we will
continue to invest in programs to help us know that we are dealing with you when you contact the credit union - whether in person, over the phone, by mail or online.
