Avoid overdraft fees
Put an end to bounced checks and declined debit cards by opting into MECU’s Overdraft Protection. If a transaction exceeds your current balance, MECU can pay it through two different overdraft services:
Standard Overdraft Service is automatically available after 90 days as a MECU member in good standing and links your savings account or an available line of credit (based on your situation and credit history) to your checking account. When you overdraft your checking account, the transaction will be processed using these available balances, but a $5 fee does apply.*
Extended Overdraft Service applies to eligible checking accounts and authorizes payments for checks, Automatic Clearing House (ACH) transactions and Bill Pay transactions. Additionally, you can opt in for authorization on ATM transactions and everyday debit card transactions.** Each time MECU pays an overdraft transaction, you will be charged a fee of $28, and there is no daily limit on the total fees that you may be charged for using this overdraft service. There is no additional charge for our Extended Overdraft Service.
To request Extended Overdraft Service you must Opt In through online banking (Select “ATM and Debit Card Overdraft Coverage” under the Member Services Tab) or by completing and returning an Extended Overdraft Opt-In form, along with a copy of your photo ID. Certain conditions may apply.
* If the entire transaction balance is not available in your overdraft linked accounts, a $28 overdraft fee may apply. This product does not pay partial amounts. All transactions are paid according to account balances at time of posting.
** Overdrafts are authorized and paid at our discretion. We do not guarantee that the transaction will be authorized and your transaction may be declined.
