MECU Funds Neighborhood Grants

April 03, 2017
BALTIMORE, MD (April 3, 2017) – Municipal Employees Credit Union of Baltimore (MECU) has announced funding for dozens of grants presented to neighborhood associations and community-based nonprofits around the Baltimore area.

The MECU Neighborhood Event Grant program provides monetary awards of up to $1,000 to groups seeking to host community events such as block parties, neighborhood clean-ups and health fairs. The program is produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts and funded by MECU, with added support from the Baltimore Department of Housing and Community Development.

“We’re excited to be a sponsor of these grants for the sixth year,” said MECU Chairman Herman Williams Jr. “They are a great way for us to demonstrate the commitment we have to our community here in Baltimore.”
“The programs and events these grants help to fund are vital to the communities they serve and we’re excited to see the money put to use to build and strengthen this city,” MECU President John Hamilton said.

Grant awardees, which were selected through an application process, must be a 501(c)(3) and have a base in Baltimore City. Sponsored events must take place between April 1 and the end of 2017 and be free and open to the public.
